This is one of the most frustrating questions from the MIJ collector. People often make the mistake of citing the American or European importer as the ‘maker’ of the guitar, when in fact several Japanese manufacturers were producing badged guitars out of their plants and shipping them to America and Europe to sell. Japanese manufacturers made multiple badges at the same plant, many of whom resemble each other closely. Some manufacturers merged or changed hands over the years which added to the confusion, sometime merging with another maker, only to pick up their name later. In some cases a manufacturer would farm out production to various manufacturers, making it still more difficult to know who made the guitar in your hands. Parts from other guitars would be used in the making of a particular badge for a period of time because it was all the manufacturer had to hand And sometimes, the guitar which is supposed to be an MIJ guitar is actually made elsewhere Korea, Indonesia because production was moved during this period in history. This page is a work in progress and as new information is revealed it will be added to the list. But I can’t do this alone, folks. See a guitar not listed?

I found a very rare acoustic guitar in a closet while cleaning out my parent’s house: Only Stelling Guitars were made during a period from Geoff Stelling formed Stelling Banjo Works in He is considered among the best banjo makers there is. Jeff Huss began building instruments in as an apprentice at Stelling. He built several Huss guitars, and then built a few with the Stelling name on them for re-sale by Geoff Stelling.
Oct 05, · The list might even seem unnecessary at a moment when women dominate popular music. The rapper Cardi B’s song “Bodak Yellow” became, in September, the first song by a .
His father, a Scot, was a Scotland Yard detective, and an amateur guitar player; several other family members had played music professionally. While attending William Ellis School in Highgate , he formed his first band “Emil and the Detectives” named after a book and a movie by the same title with classmate Hugh Cornwell , later lead singer and guitarist of The Stranglers , on bass guitar.
Like so many musicians of his generation, Thompson was exposed to and embraced rock and roll music at an early age, and he was also exposed to his father’s jazz and traditional Scottish music record collection. He was later described by his son as “a bad amateur player He can imitate almost any style, and often does, but is instantly identifiable. In his playing you can hear the evocation of the Scottish piper’s drone and the melody of the chanter as well as echoes of Barney Kessel ‘s and James Burton ‘s guitars and Jerry Lee Lewis ‘s piano.
Thompson’s guitar playing caught the ear of American producer Joe Boyd. Largely on the strength of Thompson’s playing Boyd took them under his wing and signed them to his Witchseason production and management company. And there was this group of very nice Muswell Hill grammar school boys and a girl playing American music.
And then came the guitar solo, and Richard just played the most amazing solo. He played a solo which quotes from Django , from Charlie Christian , you know, an incredibly sophisticated little solo. And that really amazed me, the breadth of his sophistication This seems to have been out of necessity as Fairport Convention was essentially a cover band at first. I remember saying to Ashley [ Hutchings , bassist] after a gig, that I was kind of embarrassed about doing the material we were doing, because it seemed that we should have outgrown doing covers — even though it was only — it somehow wasn’t good enough and other bands were writing their own stuff and we should too.
There are sonme similarities with building a modern kit car. Although the editors would suggest that building a special in the early post war period required skill and determination and particularly the ability to innovate and overcome shortages and dedicated facilities. The editors strongly recommend subscribers read the period special building manuals to full appreciate the effort involved. The evidence that many specials started with the best of intentions were not completed.
Many builders underestimated the complexity and skill they would require.

Fantasia sobre motivos Heterogeneos Bolero Hector Berlioz – Berlioz is famous as a classical orchestral composer with a unique style, but not as a guitarist. In actuality, guitar and flute were the only instruments he could play. Berlioz initially made his living as a guitarist, and he published a few pieces for guitar during the first quarter of the 19th century. As no solo guitar works have been located, most likely Berlioz only published for guitar as accompaniment.
As a friend of Paganini, Berlioz owned a guitar by Grobert of Mirecourt, which he and Paganini signed, and is now in a Paris museum. Jan Nepomucen Bobrowicz was a Polish virtuoso guitarist and composer. He was a student of Giuliani, who was known for ensemble work including performances with Paganini. Volume 1 contains Variations, and Volume 2 is nearing completion.
Live music, usually jazz or solo musicians with acoustic guitars, is still played on Sunday nights. The bar has a new, posher look and a more elaborate cocktail and beer menu. It is in fact the very first “Club-Style” guitar that I have seen with Hofner-fitted active electrics. So, it was even more disturbing to hear that the guitar, after being purchased “on-line”, had arrived in pieces and was in very poor condition. Luckily, the new owner, Bob Cocozza, has employed the services of James Payze in the UK Red Barn Repairs to restore the guitar, the results of which can be seen on the linked page.
It is interesting to see that this guitar was fitted with a centre body sustain block, which is very unusual on a “Club-Style” guitar.. It did actually appear in the “New Guitars” supplementary price list of Spring together with the Fledermaus guitar, but not in the main Hofner price list. I haven’t been able to find any reference to it in any Hofner catalogue. Very few are in existence, and the controls and electrical circuitry seem to vary between examples.
Walter Hofner was very interested in guitar circuitry, and this was no doubt just one of his projects. The was basically a Club-Style guitar fitted with a transistorised amplifier circuit, a battery, and a small loudspeaker. This all leads to a heavy guitar with limited sound quality and battery endurance.
It would seem that they were not a success and hence, just as with the Fledermausguitarre, the model had disappeared within months. It is fitted with a Fuma metal pickup at the neck location and a Hofner black-bar pickup at the bridge. The Fuma pickup may have been a replacement for another black-bar pickup. The photos clearly show the loudspeaker grill fitted to the , which was smaller than that fitted to the Fledermausguitarre.

Katy has a lot of good things going for her. A lot of positives. Since I have found myself listening to the white radio stations in town, creating a Pandora Station in her honor and illegally downloading her albums from the internet, I thought I should try to reduce my new-found fascination with her to writing.
Richard Thompson OBE (born 3 April ) is an English singer, songwriter, and guitarist.. He made his début as a recording artist as a member of Fairport Convention in September He continues to write and record new material regularly and frequently performs live at venues throughout the world.
It may be a parody of the original not necessarily humorous , with content referring back to it, or it may be a contrafactum which reuses the music and possibly the lyrical structure of the original, but with different words. Full appreciation of a parody requires familiarity with the original, but appreciation of a contrafactum may not.
Setting satirical or parody lyrics to established tunes is not exclusively the province of science fiction fandom: As Interfilk’s “What is it? Style and content[ edit ] Filk has been defined as folk music , usually with a science fiction or fantasy theme, but this definition is not exact. Filkers have been known to write filk songs about a variety of topics, including but not limited to tangentially related topics such as computers and cats.
In addition, while the majority of filk songs are in the folk style, other styles such as blues , calypso , and even rock appear from time to time. This definition might be summarized as, “We can argue what it is until we’re red or green or blue, but when filkers get together it’s the thing we do. As described later in this article, the origins of filk in science fiction conventions and its current organization emphasizes the social-network aspect of filking.

Anyone know its value? Made by Terrada Gakki Mftg. I suppose that is a Japanese maker.
Introduction. Trade show: a model with a Model , in pink. Rickenbacker was the first company to successfully market electric guitars. Pre-WWII lapsteels and pre-WWII spanish models are collectible, but really more for historic reasons than for playing.
They sit there at the back of the rack forever, daring you have the cahones. It sat up in the most wonderful guitar shop ever called Torresdale Music, a tiny corner storefront in the working-class Philly neighborhood that shared the name. Torresdale was like something out of Dickens, with amps crammed around the perimeter and high in the center and guitars hanging or stacked everywhere else. Owner Marvin Povernik scoured flea markets and thrift shops to find his stock and it was impressive.
On one guitar, he knew his cost and he knew what he wanted firm. But if you bought three guitars and presented a lump sum, his math skills went to hell, and you could walk out with a real deal. Morris is the brand name used by a large Japanese manufacturer called Moridira. Some truth, but many of the Japanese makers built excellent guitars and already by they were innovating. None more so than Ibanez, whose guitars by then were made by Fuji Gen Gakki.
Maple fingerboards on Les Pauls, tree-of-life fingerboard inlays, varitone switches, all Japanese innovations. Perhaps the most famous was the Ibanez Custom Agent, which took a swell set-neck Les Paul, gave it fancy inlays and a cool pickguard and topped it with a head shaped like a Gibson F-5 mandolin. This Morris Custom attempted to do the Custom Agent one better by using an F-5 body shape as well! Featuring a killer flametop and a mahogany body, the Custom is semi-hollow.
The Elder is selectively protective of Miu. Keeping her by his side as he travelled the world battling evil, fine. Sending her out to protect Kenichi, encouraged.
Morris Custom Electric Guitar (Copy Era) Alas, like so many things, Torresdale music is no more. Marvin had diabetes, but refused to give up a steady diet .
Rickenbacker was the first company to successfully market electric guitars. The most interesting Rickenbackers are the hollowbody models. In particular, the to pre-June models with the old style squared edge body shape, “stove” or “TV” knobs, and gold pickguard are the most interesting to me personally. The marketplace has a different idea though – The newer and later hollowbody models with checked binding and sparkle fingerboard inlays are collectible, because of their association with the Beatles, Byrds, and other ‘s super groups though personally I don’t really enjoy these newer models.
The “export” models are also collectible. For the most part, solidbody Rickenbacker guitars are pretty low on the social guitar ladder. They don’t really have a “sound”, and haven’t played a big part in electric musically history. Therefore their values are pretty low. Always make sure the “neck set” on any Rickenbacker is good. If the bridge is down all the way, or the top was routed to recess the bridge to make it go lower , avoid that Rick!
There is no “easy” way to fix this problem; the whole back of the guitar will need to be removed to reset the neck angle. No cheap or easy task the cost of the repair could be more than the cost of the guitar!
